Darkest days

We’re getting close now, to the darkest day of the year. I’ll be happy to be on the other side and heading towards daylight. In the meantime, it’s handy to be able to capture a few nice sunrises at the leisurely time of 8:45am.

Weekend at the beach

I always look forward to Easter. It’s the first chance we get every year to spend some time at the beach. This year, it was absolutely freezing and at times, stormier than Donald Trump’s mistress. Here’s how it looked, over the course of 5 days.

Waiting in the dark

These cold winter nights are taking chunks out of my day. It’s too icy to take the bike, so the car/traffic alternative has me up earlier and home later. The slight up-side to that is that I’ve some time to kill, waiting for traffic to ease in the evenings before I leave Sandymount.

High Rock

I was passing through Portmarnock yesterday. The place where I grew up. On the way, I stopped on the coast road to Malahide and took a few photos at High Rock. It was quiet, being morning time, and a working day. During the 20 minutes that I was there, the weather changed from idyllic summer…

Happy Days

No doubt there are more beautiful places on earth, but on days like this, with company like this, I can’t think of any.

Comfortably numb

Hello, is there anybody out there? Today on Sandymount strand.

Costa deLouth

Some shots taken while on holidays in Port Oriel, August 2016. It’s incredible how quickly the weather pivots – it now feels like a proper autumn, and these balmy evenings are long gone.

A lucky find

I was out for a stroll with the dogs last night when I happened upon the Clogherhead RNLI crew coming back from what looked to be a training exercise. It was fascinating to watch the elaborate, time-consuming and precisely timed process of getting the boat out of the water. It was a real treat, and…

Seen unseen

Here’s a couple of short timelapse videos I shot today. Just tests really. I was experimenting with long exposure shots using neutral density filters to cut down the light. In this first one outside the office, I shot a sequence of 6 second exposures at 8 second intervals. Watch it in 4K full resolution. After…

Point to Point

I got the new(ish) 103X bus in this morning. It comes into town through the port tunnel, so I hopped out at the Point Depot and walked up to work via the East Link. Nice day for a stroll – a long enough walk that I could almost call it exercise, and I took a…

Early bus

The forecast has been promising snow this week, but it hasn’t yet materialised in my part of the world. I’ve left the bike in the garage and taken the bus and dart to work instead. Each morning I get up, look out the window and see that it’d probably be fine on the bike, but…

Right place, right time

Today’s started well. It may not keep it up, but it was pretty fab out there this morning and I was lucky enough to have time for a walk on Sandymount beach. According to my phone, it’s 13 degrees at the moment, and it definitely feels more summery than wintery. Carpe diem.

Great South Wall

I’m not getting many opportunities at the moment to get out and take photos, but I have managed to pop down a couple of times to the South Wall, cos it’s near work and on my way. There a small, but nice little beach along the road to the wall, and it’s a nice walk…

Letting the traffic go by

Here’s a few shots taken on Sandymount beach back in early November. With rush-hour in full effect on the coast road, I waited it out on the beach.
