Solstice

Some shots taken on the winter solstice 2018, Ratoath, Co. Meath. Exposure-merged HDR images, processed in split-tone.

Darkest days

We’re getting close now, to the darkest day of the year. I’ll be happy to be on the other side and heading towards daylight. In the meantime, it’s handy to be able to capture a few nice sunrises at the leisurely time of 8:45am.

Morning phase

We’re getting some spectacular sunrises at the moment. Here are a few shots I’ve taken on Sandymount beach this week. Each day, I arrive just in time to get a few snaps – I really need to get up a few minutes earlier and have a bit of time to do this properly – but…

Weekend at the beach

I always look forward to Easter. It’s the first chance we get every year to spend some time at the beach. This year, it was absolutely freezing and at times, stormier than Donald Trump’s mistress. Here’s how it looked, over the course of 5 days.

Through the looking-glass

I’ve taken plenty of shots of the new incinerator, looking across from Sandymount. Last night (Feb13th 2018), I stopped on the way home to snap them from the other side, looking from Grand Canal Dock. I picked up a few other shots around there too.

Beam me up

I like bikes and I like photography. Luckily, you can do both together. Here’s a timelapse of my commute on Feb 5th 2018, shot with a GoPro Hero 5. Waiting in the dark

These cold winter nights are taking chunks out of my day. It’s too icy to take the bike, so the car/traffic alternative has me up earlier and home later. The slight up-side to that is that I’ve some time to kill, waiting for traffic to ease in the evenings before I leave Sandymount.

The Virgin Media Night Run

There’s a unique atmosphere about the city at night – a heightened, more focused and intimate experience. For their second year of sponsoring the Virgin Media Night Run, we wanted to evoke this feeling, coupled with the adrenaline rush of participating and competing in one of the most exciting sporting events of the year. The…

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre

On the second night of a night shoot last week, I took this at about 12.30am in Grand Canal Square, in front of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. It’s a bit noisy, because the GoPro currently won’t expose longer than 1/4sec when shooting RAW. Kinda frustrating since it can stay open for…

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle off Dame Street, Dublin, Ireland, was until 1922 the seat of the UK government’s administration in Ireland, and is now a major Irish government complex. Most of it dates from the 18th century, though a castle has stood on the site since the days of King John, the first Lord of Ireland. The…

Grand Canal Square, in the round.
